Acer Iconia A100: 7 inch Honeycomb tablet

Save: $2
Even though 10-inch tablets are currently the most popular on the computer market, there are still many technology enthusiasts that prefer to go for smaller and more portable 7-inchers.
One of the most important gadgets in this niche right now is the fashionable and strong Acer Iconia Tab A100. Sporting a 7-inch HD multi-touch display with 1024 x 600 pixels resolution and 16:10 aspect ratio, the Tab A500’s smaller sibling is elegant and slim, but at the same time sturdy and durable.
Weighing 14.7 ounces and measuring 4.6 x 7.7 x 0.5 inches, the A100 is the kind of multimedia gadget on the go that manages to combine an original design with functionality and power. The smooth, rounded edges and the navy finish on the back make the Tab A100 pretty original, while the classic black front bezel adds distinction and refinement to the overall look.
In terms of hardware, Acer’s 7-incher is as snappy as it could get, featuring a 1 GHz Nvidia Tegra 2 dual-core processor and 1 GB of RAM. When it comes to software and apps, the Tab A100 is again above average, running Android Honeycomb 3.2, the latest version of the very popular OS.
In fact, Acer’s ultraportable tablet is the first 7-incher to run Honeycomb, which means that you will get more apps than on any of its direct competitors. Other features include two very capable cameras (a 5 MPx rear-facing one with Auto Focus and single LED flash and a 2 MPx front-facing one), Wireless, Bluetooth, a full-sized USB port, a micro USB port and micro HDMI. Again, this is well above average, considering that most of the 7-inch slates currently available don’t come with HDMI and only feature micro USB ports.
The battery life could be this tablet’s only weak point, even though this is actually pretty decent itself. You can therefore expect around four hours of autonomy, based on regular use.
In terms of storage space, the Tab A100 is currently available with either 8 or 16 GB of internal memory. On top of that, you also get a micro SD memory card slot, which will allow you to extend the memory to up to 32 GB.
As for the pricing, Acer’s 7-incher is actually pretty affordable, despite its strong technical specs and nice looks. The tablet currently goes for 328 dollars (the 8 GB model) and 349 bucks (the 16 GB version).
